氇 is the simplified counterpart of traditional 氌, used almost exclusively as part of the term pulu, which refers to a thick, durable woolen fabric traditionally woven and used by the Tibetan people. It is a phono-semantic compound: the semantic radical 毛 (hair, fur, or wool) indicates the animal-derived material of the textile, while the phonetic component 魯 (simplified to 鲁) gives the pronunciation and bears no semantic relation to textiles. In the simplification, the complex 魯 was replaced by 鲁, leaving the radical 毛 exactly as in the traditional character.
