The character 所 originally depicted a door or gateway (based on its ancient pictographic form), conceptually representing a place or location. The character 有 means "to have" or "to possess". When combined, the formation is logical and conceptual: 所有 literally means "that which is (in) the place [that one] has". It conceptually blends location and possession to arrive at the sense of "all that is present" or "all that exists within a given domain", hence its meaning of "all" or "every".
