The Chinese word 区域 (qūyù), meaning "region" or "area", is formed through a logical semantic combination of its two component characters. The first character, 区 (qū), fundamentally conveys the idea of a division, district, or enclosed area. The second character, 域 (yù), carries the core meaning of land, territory, or a bounded domain.
