About
The Chinese word 传感器 (chuángǎnqì), meaning "sensor", is a semantically transparent compound formed through a logical and descriptive morphological process. It combines 传感 (chuángǎn), which is itself a contraction of 传递 (chuándì - to transmit) and 感知 (gǎnzhī - to sense/perceive), with 器 (qì - device/instrument). Therefore, the entire term literally and systematically denotes a "device that transmits sensed information", perfectly capturing the function of a sensor as a transducer that converts a physical phenomenon into a signal for interpretation.
