About
The character 膬 is a phono-semantic compound, with the flesh radical 月 on the left indicating its semantic connection to the body or physical matter. The right component 毳 provides its phonetic pronunciation. It serves as a classical variant of the common character 脆, sharing the same meaning: brittle, fragile, or crisp. This older structure reflects a tradition linking the concept of brittleness to bodily or biological textures, whereas the modern standard character 脆 uses a different phonetic element. 膬 is now archaic and has been entirely replaced by 脆 in contemporary usage.
