About
Composed of the foot radical ⻊ and the phonetic element "留", the character "蹓" was formed to specify actions related to walking, deriving from the broader meaning of "溜" which involved smooth movement. Initially, "溜" conveyed sliding or flowing, but with the addition of the foot radical, "蹓" narrowed its semantic focus to denote walking in a leisurely manner. This specialization led to its use in terms like "蹓跶", where it explicitly means to stroll, while "溜" continued to be used for other types of motion.
