About
The character 臐 uses the flesh radical 月 on the left, placing it within the semantic domain of bodily tissues or animal products. The right component, 熏 (meaning "smoke" or "to smoke"), provides both the phonetic cue and a semantic hint at a smoking or aromatic preparation method. Historically, 臐 was specifically coined to denote a rich mutton broth or heavily seasoned lamb soup. Due to this precise culinary reference, it appears almost exclusively in classical texts describing historical banquets, diets, or traditional meat recipes.
