About

踞 is a phono-semantic compound with the radical 足 on the left, relating it to feet or posture, and the phonetic component 居 on the right, meaning to sit or reside. Its primary sense describes the physical posture of squatting or crouching. This meaning later extended metaphorically to signify occupying territory or holding a strategic position, often by force, applying the idea of a fixed, grounded posture to military or territorial control.
