About
阄 is the simplified form of 鬮, which originally combined 鬥 (fight, struggle) and 龜 (turtle) as a phonetic and semantic component. This structure evokes the historical practice of using turtle shells for divination and drawing lots to settle disputes or make difficult choices. When simplified, the outer 鬥 became 门 and 龜 was reduced to 龟. The character now means drawing lots to decide outcomes or distribute items.
