About
滕 is a phono-semantic compound: the 水 (water) radical at the bottom indicates liquid movement, and the upper phonetic element consists of 月 on the left with a modified right section. The character originally meant water gushing or surging upward. It later named a vassal state during the Zhou Dynasty and subsequently evolved into a common surname, which remains its primary use today.
