About
Composed of the stone radical 石 and the phonetic component 畾 (three fields), 磥 depicts a pile of stones or an uneven, rocky surface. The 石 radical indicates its material and geological nature, while the tripling of 田 in 畾 reinforces the idea of accumulation and multiplicity. This imagery of clustered, rugged rocks led to its metaphorical use in describing a person of outstanding, unyielding character, firm and prominent like a mound of boulders.
