About

峄 is a phono-semantic compound, written as 嶧 in its traditional form. Its left side, the mountain radical 山, defines the semantic category of topography and elevated terrain. The right side of the traditional form uses 睪 as the phonetic component, which was later simplified to 𠬤 in the modern character. This character is geographically specific, used almost exclusively to name Mount Yi (Yishan) in Shandong province and the related historical Yi County. Its usage has remained confined to this proper noun and region, acquiring no common metaphorical or everyday meanings outside this topographical context.
