About

The character is a phono-semantic compound with the radical (a musical instrument) on the left and as the phonetic on the right. Its meaning is musical harmony: the perfect tuning of instruments or a state of acoustic concord. Due to its elaborate structure, it was largely replaced by simpler characters for harmony in everyday writing, and its modern use is restricted to classical poetry and historical treatises on music theory.
