About
The character 巯, simplified from 巰, was created for organic chemistry nomenclature to represent the mercapto (sulfhydryl) group, a sulfur atom bonded to hydrogen. Its construction is a visual puzzle: the component 𢀖 is taken from the bottom of 氢 (hydrogen), while 㐬 comes from the right side of 硫 (sulfur), together forming a literal diagram of -SH. The traditional form 巰 follows the same logic, combining 巠 from 氫 (hydrogen) with 㐬.
