About
迳, often used interchangeably with 径 in modern contexts, means a path, trail, or direct route. Its traditional form 逕 combines the movement radical 辶 (walking, advancing) with the phonetic 巠. When simplified, the complex 巠 was replaced by 𢀖, yielding 迳. Originally it denoted a narrow footpath or a direct way; later it came to serve as an adverb meaning 'directly' or 'straightaway', especially in formal or literary language, indicating action without intermediate steps or detours.
