About
翚 (huī) is a phono-semantic compound character meaning a colorful pheasant or, by extension, to fly swiftly. Its structure combines the semantic component 羽 (yǔ), meaning feathers or wings, with the phonetic component 軍 (jūn), meaning military, which provides the pronunciation. The feather radical links the character to birds and flight. It is the simplified form of the traditional character 翬, which uses the full traditional components. In classical poetry, it often describes the rapid, whirring flight of game birds or the brilliance of their plumage.
