About
彝 features a complex structure: the top component 彑 (pig snout), a middle section with 糸 (silk) and 米 (rice), and the bottom 廾 (two hands). It originally referred to a sacred bronze ritual vessel used in ancestral sacrifices, with the hands depicting the offering of food and textiles. The meaning later extended to signify moral laws, societal norms, and behavioral rules. It also serves as the official name for the Yi people, an ethnic minority primarily in southwestern China's mountainous regions.
