About
鷩 refers to a golden pheasant, or a pheasant with vibrant, distinctive plumage, in historical texts. A phonetic-semantic compound, it combines the semantic component 鳥 (bird) at the bottom, marking its avian class, with the phonetic 敝 (bì) above, which supplies the pronunciation. In classical literature, the character also denoted the bì crown, ceremonial headgear or garments of ancient rulers, decorated with the bird's feathers.
