Etymology
About
軡 is a phono-semantic compound combining the semantic radical 車 ("cart, chariot, or wheeled vehicle") on the left with the phonetic element 今 on the right. Historically, it named a specific piece of hardware or structural component on ancient chariots or horse-drawn carriages, a term from the specialized vocabulary of early vehicle construction. As such vehicles became obsolete, the character fell out of everyday use and now survives only in archaeological texts, historical records, and academic studies of ancient vehicle mechanics.
