Etymology

About

届 primarily serves as a measure word for periodic events, political terms, graduating classes, and scheduled meetings, and also means "to arrive at a designated time or place". Its traditional form, 屆, combined a flag or banner element with a phonetic component. The simplified character places the component 由 ("cause" or "from") beneath the 尸 radical, which often relates to the body or a roof.
