About
祂 (tā) is a modern phono-semantic compound, combining the spirit radical 示 (shì) with phonetic 也 (yě). Bible translators coined it to serve as a distinct third-person pronoun for a monotheistic God, setting it apart from standard human pronouns. Previously, writers used generic pronouns or honorific titles; the addition of the spirit radical gave the character a visual marker of divinity in translated religious texts. Its use remains confined to theological contexts, functioning as a specialized orthographic tool rather than an evolved ancient character.
