About
镮 (huán), the simplified form of 鐶, combines the metal radical 钅 (jīn) with the phonetic 睘 (qióng or huán). It originally denoted a metal ring, such as a ring on a sword hilt, a decorative loop, or a chain link. The traditional character 鐶 uses the unsimplified radical 金 (jīn) and the same phonetic, so only the left side differs. Throughout historical and literary usage, its meaning remains confined to circular metal hardware.
