About

蒇 (chǎn) is a classical verb meaning to complete or resolve. It is a phono-semantic compound, with the semantic radical 艹 (cǎo, grass) above the phonetic component 产 (chǎn). Its traditional form 蕆 had a more complex phonetic base: an outer 戊 (wù) enclosing a 貝 (bèi, shell), which originally related to handling goods. Simplification changed this to 产 for phonetic clarity. While the grass radical typically suggests a plant origin, this character's meaning historically shifted toward the formal completion of tasks or official matters.
