About

胑 is a phono-semantic compound. The flesh radical 月 on the left indicates its connection to the body, while the right component 只 provides the pronunciation "zhī". It historically served as an older variant of 肢, meaning limbs or extremities. The structure combines the semantic category of flesh with a phonetic marker, but standard usage later preferred 支 as the phonetic component, leading 胑 to become largely obsolete today.
