About

鄠 combines the left component 高 (gāo), meaning "high" and providing the phonetic element, with the right radical 阝, a semantic indicator for a city or location. Historically, it has served almost exclusively as a proper noun for an ancient settlement and county in what is now Hebei province. Due to this specific geographical reference, its use is largely confined to historical texts, genealogical records, and discussions of ancient administrative divisions.
