Etymology
Depicts the axle of a chariot (車).
About
Originally a technical term in early Chinese writing, 軎 refers to the cylindrical hub or cap fitted onto the end of a chariot’s axle to secure the wheel. The character contains the vehicle radical 車, firmly placing its meaning within the domain of ancient transportation and mechanics. As chariots fell into obsolescence, 軎 lost its practical use in everyday language. It now appears only in classical texts, archaeological descriptions, and historical literature on warfare or vehicle construction, having never developed any secondary or abstract meanings.
