About

The character 噼 is a phono-semantic compound used almost exclusively as an onomatopoeia for sharp, sudden cracking sounds. Its left side contains the mouth radical 口, the semantic component indicating a vocalization or sound. The right side is the phonetic component 辟, which provides the pronunciation pī, mimicking the auditory burst of snapping wood or striking objects. 噼 is most commonly paired with 啪 to form 噼啪, a descriptive term simulating the rhythmic popping noises of firecrackers, heavy rain, or a blazing fire.
